A very pleasant morning. Acapulco in sight, but it was breakfast time before we anchored. . . The ship took on board a supply of water, coal, chickens, turkeys, tomatoes and corn. The coal was placed directly under our window, and the noise and bustle continued till about eleven o’clock. When the steam was got up, it created much excitement; as they forgot to close the port-holes, so when the ship began to sail, the water dashed in, in torrents, which for a while caused much confusion, such as, crying of children and screaming of women, so that it must certainly have been three o’clock before we could sleep. In the evening Sister Bernice had a chill and fever.
